Oneironauts and mystics have given this place many names. The Mauve Zone, The Abyss, Da’at, the Akashic Records, the Inner Library. It might be Uranus, that which disrupts and breaks with convention, encouraging originality and progression. It is the primordial point before expansion; it is also the deepest, darkest end-space between galaxies. It is where nothing becomes something. And it is where everything learns it is nothing.
This Zone functions as a threshold, a crossing to be traversed. It can appear to humans as a liminal space between lucidity and dreaming. With practice, human beings can safely reach this place, interface with it and communicate with the archetypes, intelligences and outside consciousnesses who also use it.
This Zone presents itself differently to each person, in the same way I may look up at a clouds and see a dragon, you may look up see a tsunami. Our minds govern our perception of the this place. Similarly, the intelligences who reside there take on different forms and meanings dependent on our experiences and willingness to engage. As was once said: angels to some, devils to others.
Just as this place has been ascribed various names, so have the entities you will meet there: The Guardian, Choronzon, the Shadow Self, Saturn, the Lurker. Here, I have used the term Dweller on the Threshold.
It was during one of my first experiences with visionary magic that I came to this place and first engaged with the Dweller. The experiences within and without, above and below, are the subject of FoxGlove’s Dweller on the Threshold. These pieces of performance, aesthetic and photography comprise this concept.
